There is someone who actually calls himself a Purposologist – his name, Dutchman, Alexander den Heijer. He is a motivational speaker known for the quote:
“When a flower doesn’t bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.”
That’s pretty cool and I think about this a lot, living here in a paradise like Key West, Florida. As one who loves the reefs surrounding the Keys, I often wonder why anyone would ever allow nature’s bounty to die a slow death by bleaching? I grew up in Louisiana, where the wetlands were considered wastelands, rarely a thought that these were the protection zones for communities against storms and the nursery grounds for wild and marine life. Peoples’ abuse has left them dying.
Man was not put on earth to disrupt the wonder and peace of our ecosystem, which when in sync, provides the cycle of life for all of us to survive and prosper.
Bring peace back to our marshes, reefs and natural ecosystems. Collect trash and plastics, which chokes our environment and its creatures. Remember that what you put down a drain on any street is like going into earth’s mouth. The earth is an extension of your own body. Protect and respect it.
On Earth Day and every day, remember our environment. Don’t trivialize its value with politics. Allow the flowers to bloom bringing peace each day to our world. Our planet must live to enrich and nourish us forever.
